摘要:

Thepresentation will discuss the most important developments in Translation andInterpreting Studies (TIS) since the 1990s. Within the ‘cultural’ and‘sociological’ turns in TIS, building on the previous ‘linguistic’ turn, interlingual translation is seen as a complex practice performed at thelinguistic level (oral or written language use and ‘toggling’ between two ormore interacting languages), yet reflecting in its verbal guise thesocio-cultural conditions under which translation is produced. Therefore, thestudy of translation both as a process and as a product needs to be conductedbearing in mind its complex nature – going beyond purely linguistic analysisand yet, when cultural and social aspects are looked into, not letting the textof translation or text-production in the process of translating out of sight. Translation, thus, should be studied not only as an interface between two languages but alsoas an interface between language, culture and society. It will be shown how, while focusing on translation as an essentially verbal activity, TIS researchreconsiders its methodology and embraces more diversified approaches – fromCritical Discourse Analysis to applying sociological methods and theories. Thisenables TIS to shed more light on translation as a social activity.
