四、沙龙简介:
In this lecture the speaker will give a brief survey of some aspects of visual culture in Britain – mainly architecture, planning, investment in arts and cultural facilities, exhibition design, product design, graphics and graffiti. There is a strain of UK nostalgia, evident in the passion for vintage fashion and books about old railways, ships, airplanes, cities. American influence – whether it’s Hollywood films, fashion or language grows all the time. But at least you don’t yet have their rapidly polarized politics which recently shut down the government for several weeks….the speaker considers the energy of cities, which are constantly evolving, rebuilding and changing as their economies and politics evolve. What happens to their oldest buildings and historic areas – their embodied history associated with memory and identity is examined. Different cultures have different attitudes to building and area conservation – from discarding them altogether, rebuilding them using authentic materials and techniques, reproducing them in concrete or repainting in acrylic paint – to reverence for original fabric in the UK inspired by William Morris.
